Color Me Mine

The last colored mascara I owned was also the first mascara I owned, because 12 year old me didn't see the point in putting black mascara on my already black eyelashes…

Except for a brief obsession with a silver Mary-Kate and Ashley mascara (I wish that stuff would still exist), I  did, however, never revisit the color trend. Until now that is…

Butter London
How fantastic are these colors from Butter?

I bought the two green shades online, and was actually a little surprised to find out how pigmented they actually are (the lime green Jaded Jack will  turn your lashes lime green). So I suggest starting with the darker tones for a a more subdued look (the darker British Racing Green is perfect for a subtle hint of color).  Or – and this is my favorite way to wear them – use them to set a few accents on the tips of your lashes after applying black or clear mascara.

Would you rock them, or do you think this trend should stay in the past?

Bucket List

I love the bucket bag trend! My affection for the style started when I was just a toddler and my mom always carried toys and snacks in her Louis Vuitton bucket bag (seriously that thing held more stuff than Mary Poppin's magic satchel). The first bucket bag I owned was also a Louis Vuitton (the smaller version of my mom's), but I never liked it as much as my mom's, maybe it was the size, maybe that it just looked too new...

So I was ecstatic when I found a vintage Burberry one in a thriftstore earlier this year. Just as big and tattered as my mom's, the bag soon became my new favorite. What I love most about them is how they are the perfect compromise between a slouchy tote and a more structured bag (oh and did I mention how much stuff they hold?).

The best though? there's one for every style and wallet:

Which one is on top of your "bucket list”?

The Opposite of Loneliness

Hello again! I've been a bit MIA due to some exams, but I aced them all and they were actually kind of fun (one was about the cultural effects of Rock 'n Roll in the 1950s).

But as of now, I'm simply glad to have a few days off to relax before I start my internship in 2 weeks. And the first thing I did was to finish The Opposite of Loneliness:

Amazon

The book is a collection of lovely essays and short stories, and probably the single most relatable thing I've read in years.  It does, however, have a very tragic backstory, as the young author Marina Keegan died in a car accident just a few days after graduating from Yale. The book was put together after her death, and is so to say the young writer's legacy - a theme that is eerily prominent throughout the book.

It's heartbreaking that we'll never get to see Marina grow as a writer. She had a remarkable talent for capturing the voice of her generation and putting feelings into words - words that offer a glimpse into the  many amazing things Marina could have produced if she had been given more time.

Still, her tragedy isn't the reason this book is such a great read, and as one of Marina's Professors wrote in the preface: "Marina wouldn't want you to read her book because she is dead, but because it is good.”

I couldn't agree more.

Bye-Bye Pixie?

Hair seems to be everyone's favorite topic on here (at least that's what Google analytics tells me), and since I'm in the midst of a hair crisis right now I figured I'd share…

So the crisis isn't really a crisis, I'm just a little bit over my pixie cut. Don't get me wrong, I love my hair short but I did get a little lazy with touch ups over the last three months and it's at this short bob stage right now. Which is cute but also kind of …eh.

I just need something new, and this time I'm going for a grown out pixie style with some inspiration  from Julianne Hough. I don't really know much about her or what she does, except for that she has awesome hair:

Usually, I'm not a big fan of this length. It has a tendency to look matronly. But Julianne's cut has a certain effortlessness to it that just makes it cool. And hey, if I hate it I can always go Emma Watson short again…

5 Minute Peach Bruschetta

The thing with cooking posts is that I never plan them. I'll make something and don't realize that it would make a good post until it's half gone, which is basically just my excuse for the not so great picture. So trust me when I say that this Instagram pic doesn't do this awesome recipe justice.

I present, my famous 5 Minute Peach Bruschetta:

What you need:
Bread (I used Ciabatta, but you can use whatever you like best)
Feta Cheese
Peaches
Olive Oil
Honey
Rosemary

How much you need of each ingredient depends on how much you want to make,
just make sure that you're using equal amounts of feta and peach.

5 minutes to go…
Cut the bread into finger-thick slices, and put them in the toaster (or on the grill).

4 minutes to go…
Dice the feta and the peaches.

3 minutes to go…
Mix the olive oil and the honey in a bowl, and add a dash of rosemary.
I usually start with the honey, and add about double the amount of olive oil, but this ratio really depends on how sweet you want the mixture to be.

2 minutes to go…
Add the diced feta and peaches to the bowl, and cover them with the olive oil honey mix, while you toast/grill the bread until it's crunchy.

and done…
Pour the mixture over the warm bread slices, and that's it!
(Tip: add extra peach slices for decorative purposes)

Bon appétit!

Piano Girl

I've always been an admirer of Kate Spade's whimsical flats (taxi anyone?), but I'm not really one to spend a lot of money on things that I'm not gonna wear every day ('cause shoes that look like racecars or fruit don't go with everything). Her newest design is  however, the perfect mix of whimsical and classical (no pun intended), which makes them (almost) everyday appropriate:

They also come with a heel, if you want to add some height:

Let's hope for a good sale in the near future…

Stars and Stripes

Happy Fourth of July to my American readers!

I said before that wearing full on flag prints can be tricky (and tacky if you overdo it), but if there's one day where it's totally okay to forgo this rule, it's today.

And leave it to a true American icon to make me want to dismiss the rule all together – because no one does Stars and Stripes like Ralph Lauren:

Neckholder Top

Cardigan

Boyfriend Tee

Oh, and this entire collection is currently on sale on ASOS
You're welcome.

Cool

I spent my monday night watching the Glastonbury highlights (yay Jack White!) while browsing Anthropologie (yay summer sale!), when I discovered these babies:

Sunny Side Up Sunglasses

I've been looking for a cheaper version of the Ray Ban Clubmaster Style for a while, and these happen to be exactly what I want. But they weren't the only cool (and affordable) pair of shades on the site:

1, 2, 3 & 4

Who knew that Anthro had so many cute sunnies?
I kinda want them all…
