Look For Less: Taylor Swift

I've always been a fan of Taylor Swift's style (in the literal sense and the song), the way she constantly reinvents her look without ever compromising her identity is almost as impressive as the evolution of her music over the years.  But it hasn't been until recently that I went from being a fan of her look to wanting to emulate it. There's a new edginess to her style (that Vogue cover!), that has me really excited for what's to come next, and at the same time she looks more laid back than ever – which is always a winning combination in my book.

Pairing a camo jacket with comfy high tops is hardly a groundbreaking fashion statement, but that's exactly what makes it so cool – it's an easy no fuss look that anyone can pull of… and afford. Because you don't have to shop at Saint Laurent to get the look:

1989 …again

I love Taylor Swift, always have always will. But I'm also more of a rock girl, and when I heard that  Ryan Adams was covering Taylor's album, I was more than just a little excited (there was jumping involved).  It's so unexpected, but that makes it so great. Judging from the previews, the 80s vibe seems to be even stronger on Ryan's cover versions, and some songs give me the impression that Taylor Swift + Ryan Adams = Bruce Springsteen  …Which again, unexpected, but in the best possible way. 

It is also always a nice thing to see different genre come together, because there's really no reason why a Ryan Adams fan can't enjoy a Taylor Swift song (or vice versa). So whether you're a fan of Taylor, Ryan, both, or maybe even neither check out Ryan's 1989, you might just be surprised:

Shoe Heaven

…quite literally.  I have a confession to make: I'm a grown woman who just bought another (yes another) pair of Taylor Swift Keds.  Is there anything more juvenile than buying something designed by your favorite popstar? I think not. Do I care? Definitely not.

They come in the form of the classic champion, the champion with a "triple" sole, and a slip on - which is what I opted  for.  I'm not an impulse buyer when it comes to shoes, but the second I saw the seagull print they went into my shopping basket (I wasn't even looking for new shoes!). The subtle print is perfect  for summer and the perfect way to show you're a fan without dressing head to toe in merch.

Look For Less: Taylor Swift

Happy Saturday!  After the rainiest and coldest August ever the sun finally came out  again, just in time to break out the shorts one more time before putting them away for good.  And if anyone knows how to rock  shorts in the fall it's Taylor Swift:

Seriously, how cute is this look? I've always had a thing for over-the-knee socks, but  never really considered normal knee socks a good look. They were just always a little too preppy for my taste (which says a lot coming from me). But paired with shorts, a loose oxford, and a matching hat, they're suddenly the coolest accessory around.  Thanks for changing my mind, Taylor!

Hump Day Homework: Coffee Break

I am not even going to attempt to explain this book, all you have to know is that there's an unhappy writer named Morgan, a talking chihuahua in a blue Prada bag, and lots and lots of caffeine, oh and elves. Starbucks Nation wouldn't run without elves. This satire on Hollywood, mindless entertainment, and, of course, the modern absurdity that is Starbucks, is a brilliant comment on American pop- and coffee culture - and one of the most entertaining books I have ever read.

This movie is nothing for the easily irritated. The collection of strange, satirical, and slighly surreal vignettes that are all connected through - you guessed it: coffee and cigarettes -  starts off like your average deadpan comedy, when big names (Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Iggy Pop, Jack and Meg White to name a few) meet self-irony and existential wisdom over many cups of coffee - but you'll find that it is much more than that, and it'll leave you with haunting realizations about life, and the longing for a good cup of coffee.

This girl sure loves her coffee, 'cause it seems like that's all she sings about on Red. Not my favorite album of hers (you can't top Speak Now - like ever!), but nevertheless a  hit, and home to some of her catchiest songs to date (22, Starlight, and of course We are Never Ever Getting Back Together). As a special treat, try to find the secret messages in the booklet over a cup of Maple Latte, you might be surprised....
