Pumpkin Perfect

Orange is a tricky color to pull off. Reminiscent of pumpkins and falling leaves it should be the ultimate fall color, but it also is so bright and summery that it just tends to look a little wrong with fall clothes …or worse like you're trying a little too hard to look like an extra on Halloweentown.

I am loving the baseball cap trend right now. I mean, it's always been a go-to accessory for me, but the fact that it's actually in style means that there's a much bigger selection to choose from. From wool, tweed and velvet, over suede to satin… There's one for everyone and (almost) every occasion. I  think I'll need one of each:

Loafers For Fall

A little less bulky than boots and a little more substantial than ballet flats, loafers are the perfect fall shoe. And this year the preppy staple is back in full force.  

They are comfortable, versatile, and make every outfit look a little more put together. Pumpkin Patch

I spent my saturday looking at some really awesome pumpkins, and of course I have some pictures to share:

Fall Reading

I love this time of year, when it's still summer but the first Halloween decorations start popping up everywhere, and it's warm enough to sit outside but cool enough to need a sweater when you curl up with a good book on the patio....  

And talking of books, here are my current favorites:

 

Nerve by Jeanne Ryan: "Hunger Games light" - that's how a friend described Nerve to me, and while the emphasis lies on light, I definitely got the Hunger Games vibe from it (minus all the dystopia).  Nerve follows Vee, a shy girl who enters in an multiplayer online game that promises the players amazing prizes for performing dares.  It starts off easy when Vee is challenged to pour water over herself in a crowded coffee shop, but before she knows it she finds herself playing for her own life. I was a bit torn about this, the first chapter had a weird vibe to it, and it took me a few chapters to get into it, but once I did I was hooked.  If you're looking for a quick and fun "bubblegum thriller", then Nerve is what you need.

The Undertaker's Daughter  by Kate Mayfield: Can you imagine growing up in a funeral home? For Kate Mayfield this was the reality. In a voice that is reminiscent of Harper Lee's young Scout  Mayfield  writes about the ups and downs of being raised in a funeral home in Jubilee, Kentucky, during the nineteen sixtes and seventies  While The Undertaker's Daughter is definitely not the lightest read, it does not feel as heavy as the the load of serious topics it deals with. The book might not be for everyone, but if you like episodic memoirs that are a little on the odd side, you will  LOVE this.

Bag of Bones by Stephen King: I'm gonna be honest I only bought this because I really enjoyed the movie (in an "it's so utterly ridiculous it's awesome" kind of way), but now I'm so glad I did! It's classic Stephen King with very touching components, that make it sweet without compromising the scary side. If you enjoy a good haunted summer house story, with a number of shocking family secrets thrown in, then Bag of Bones if the book for you.

I love a good tag, and this one happens to be about my favorite thing: Fall

1. Favorite candle scent?


I'm actually not a candle person. Shocking, I know.

2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?


Black Coffee's usually the way to my heart, but I do carry a particular fondness for berry tea in the fall. 

3. What's the best fall memory you have?


Pumpkin carving, ever since I was little we had pumpkin carving parties, that involved watching the Disney Halloween classics in the garden house.

4. Which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eyeliner?


Dark lips,  berry lips trump everything.

5. What do you want to be for Halloween?


Red Coat from Pretty Little Liars.

6. Favorite fall food?


Apple quiche.

7. Hats or Scarves?

Hats.


8. Most worn sweater?


My precious owl sweater. 

9. Favorite fall nail polish?


It's a toss-up betweeen Essie's "Wicked" and OPI's "Warm and Fozzy"

10. Football games or jumping in leaf piles?


 Leaves! Duh...

11. Skinny jeans or leggings?


Skinny jeans.

12. Combat boots or Uggs?


 Both? Riding boots? My Hunters?  ...I dont discriminate against boots.

13. What's your #1 favorite thing about fall?

Treats from the Trees

Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower - Albert Camus

The sound of walking through crunchy leaves has always been one of my favorite things about fall,  but since it will still take a few weeks for those leaves to fall, I found a different way to enjoy them:

...fried and sugared. 

The recipe is super simple: Just cut a couple of large tortillas into leaf shapes, frye the pieces in a pan until the edges are brown, cool them, and toss them in a cinnamon/sugar/salt mixture. Enjoy!

Better Days

I know I've been a little MIA this summer, lets just say there were a lot of not so great things happening, and I needed a blogging break to get my life back in order.  But things are finally looking up now, and if anyone wants to know details feel free to ask.

After this not so great summer I'm even more excited that my favorite time of the year is about to start, and here are some things that I'm looking forward to this fall:  

1) Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie

2) American Horror Story Coven

3) Reading the "Mockingbirds" sequel the Rivals 

(expect a post on them later this month)

4) Hats, especially a new maroon one I just bought.  

5) And last but not least my Sweden trip coming up in October
