Sweater Weather

Count on the Carrie Diaries to brighten up this dull February weather with cute and cozy sweaters, and this week it was Dorrit who stood out the most:

Step into Spring

I'm done! Done with winter that is, and after 3 months of snow boots I can't wait to step into flats, oxfords, and cute sneakers...

The oxfords are my favorite out of the bunch (and already waiting in my shoe closet), but I definitely wouldn't mind the Hunters (bad weather flats? Brilliant!), and the bunny flats are obviously the perfect Easter shoe, and well you can never have enough cool sneakers - or leopard for that matter.

Cookie Cuisine

Macarons aren't just cookies, they are mystical creatures only found in the worlds of Blair Waldorf and Eloise, so the idea of making them at home in my kitchen instead of going out to buy a pink boxed pack of five seemed a little scary.

But hey, I found a Macaron mix on Amazon, frozen raspberries in my freezer, and a whole lot of food coloring from my cupcake adventures.  I was all set, and it seemed like the perfect Saturday afternoon adventure.  Until....

Well let's just say LadurĂ©e won't hire me anytime soon, and these things (whatever they are...) don't even taste like Macarons. But I will try again, from scratch this time…

Specs-tacular

I was on the hunt for new glasses when I saw Warby Parker's Hayworth collection, aka the red lipstick of eyewear. Classic, cool, and inspired by old Hollywood they are exactly what I was looking for:

The Edgeworth in Striped Sassafras

The only downside is that they don't ship to Europe...  I guess my search isn't over yet.

Trench Kisses

Burberry's fall collection never fails to get me excited, and thanks to the amazingness that is the interwebs I can swoon about it without having to attend London Fashion week (not that I'd be opposed to that…)

Here are some highlights from the Burberry Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2013 show "Trench Kisses":

I want to trench kiss you Christopher...

Oh, and the music was brilliant, too.

Meta is the Middle Name

Lets face it, which TV fan doesn't use the internet to connect with other like minded fans? This can go from composing a tweet that consists mainly of emoticons to express one's excitement (or frustration) about the latest cliffhanger ending, to participating in role-plays that might appear almost psychotic to people outside the community (the fandom).

The CW's newest show Cult explores this idea of what happens when fiction blurs with reality. The show takes us to the fictional set of the hit TV show Cult, a drama about a young investigator (Alona Tal) trying to take down the leader of a cult who captured her family. So far so good, but then we meet Nate (James Pizzinato), a young screw-up who seeks help from his older brother Jeff (Matthew Davis) because he is convinced that someone is after him -  someone from a TV show.

Jeff writes this off as just another one of his brother's juvenile obsessions, and walks out on him (yeah, I don't blame him either). But when Nate disappears even the skeptical Jeff can't dismiss the signs that point to the show, and teams up with clever production assistant Skye (Jessica Lucas) to find his missing brother.

Technically Cult has two main story lines, the one of the show within the show, and the one surrounding the investigation of that show and it's fanbase, and if you want, a third one about us, the viewers, trying to figure out this  meta-maze of a show.

As for me, I'm hooked, the cast is great, the mystery intriguing, and it has that post modern noir vibe (that's a thing now) I love so much. Let's just say it has the potential to become a cult hit (no pun intended).

Red

Happy Valentine's Day my lovelies, did anyone try my Strawberry bouquet? If you didn't there's still time today, just get dressed, hit the supermarket, and...  I lost you at "get dressed", didn't I? Well it's alright here are a few TV inspired Valentine's Day outfit ideas. All in the color of love.

Carrie's Red Urban Outfitters Peplum from The Carrie Diaries

Emma's/Sutton's Red BCBG Dress from The Lying Game

or a red Trench Coat, 'cause that's always a good idea (Pretty Little Liars)

Hump Day Homework: Welcome to the Island of Misfit Toys

Which book has influenced you the most? The Great Gatsby? The Catcher in the Rye? On The Road? I bet that 8 out of 10 will choose one of these great classics, and with good reason, but for me it has always been Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower

I discovered the book when I was 14 or 15, and re-read it many times during the last 10 years, loving and understanding it a little bit more each time. The last time I picked it up was right before seeing the movie, a movie I was rather skeptical about: Will the actors live up to the characters in my head? Will the story loose it's intimacy? Thoughts every book lover can relate to…

But with Chbosky himself providing the script, and directing it, there wasn't much that could go wrong.  And let's just say that I might have enjoyed the movie even more than the book, which might have a lot to do with the brilliant soundtrack

So to celebrate the movie's DVD release:

Chocolate or Flowers?

Can't decide whether to surprise your Valentine with flowers or chocolate this year? Well how about you combine the two and surprise them with a chocolate strawberry bouquet.  All you need are strawberries, chocolate, long skewers (bonus points if you find green ones), and pretty paper to wrap it in (I used tissue paper from an Anthropology order).

...and it's totally acceptable to make one for yourself.

L is for the way...

It's almost Valentine's Day my lovelies, and on here that means holiday playlist time! But I have to warn you, this one's on the cheesy side...

5) U2: Everlasting Love

I wouldn't know about this cover if it wasn't for Eddie Redmayne's Burberry campaign. But if this doesn't bring a smile to your face then something is seriously wrong with you.

4) The Lovemakers: Love is Dead

You may ask yourself what this is doing on a Valentine's Day playlist. But give it a chance, trust me.

3) The Jonas Brothers: Lovebug

Aren't all love songs guilty pleasures by definition? Don't judge me...

2) The Ramones: Baby I Love You

No Playlist is complete without the Ramones.

1) The Lumineers: Ho Hey

I belong with you, you belong with me... and this song belongs on every Valentine's Day playlist ever.

What's your favorite love song?
I could have made this a top 50...

Snow Day

I'm pretty much snowed in today. But I'm not complaining, because there's nothing better than a cozy day at home every once in a while. Here are my snow day essentials:

1) cozy oversized sweaters
2) even cozier Moccasins
3) a good read (preferably a thrilling murder mystery)
4) bold nail strips (this is the perfect time to try them out)
5) buckets full of fresh popcorn
6) and tea, lots and lots of tea

What are your snow day essentials?

Fashion Spoiler

I usually don't post Seen On posts until the day the episode airs, but when I saw this Pretty Little Liars promo picture from the February 13 episode, I had to write a post about Hanna's fantastic plaid  jacket:

source: Spoiler TV

It is, apparently,  from the brand Semantiks but not available anymore (here's to ebay...). But it's not the only cute plaid jacket out there. Check out this adorable  plaid peplum blazer from ASOS:

Ballerina

I tend to be a little bipolar when it comes to nail polish. I either like it as dark as it gets without actually being black or so sheer that it looks like I'm barely wearing anything. It is, however, not always easy to find sheer polishes that don't look streaky. Which is why I'm glad to have discovered Essie's  Ballet Slippers. It's a dream to apply, and looks flawless after just two coats:

totally en pointe...

I ♥ Saturdays

A few days ago, I blogged about Anna Sophia Robb's lovely Heart sweater from the Carrie Diaries,  and the heart obsession isn't over yet. Today, I found an amazing Codello scarf (on sale for 19.99!) with - you guessed it - a heart print:

Both, color and print, remind me of Burberry's fall 2013 collection...

Burberry

Of course I also picked up some Brownies and Moroccan Blondies from my favorite bakery (which is actually just a camping table under a tent that pops up every Saturday), to munch on during our weekly Pretty Little Liars viewing party.  I wish I could share them with you...

What is your favorite thing about Saturdays?

Oh, my goodness...

Jane Austen's famous Pride and Prejudice is turning 200 years old, and no better way to celebrate than with a screening of one of my favorite adaptations: Lost in Austen (2008)

Amanda, a Jane Austen obsessed modern day Londoner, finds herself in the middle of her favorite novel when she swaps places with the fictional Lizzy Bennet - and the result is a hilarious mini series.

And how cute are these Pride and Prejudice clutches?
